Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime (MEKO) is a chemical additive widely used in the paint and coating industry, particularly as an anti-skinning agent in solvent-based paints. It prevents premature film formation, which can occur due to oxygen, on the paint surface, extending the shelf life of the paint in a closed container and facilitating application.
MEKO is available as a low-viscosity, colorless to slightly yellow, clear liquid. It is compatible with organic solvents and exhibits high stability with alkyd resins. It is particularly suitable for use in alkyd, epoxy, polyurethane , and other solvent-based systems, reducing brush marks during application, improving surface smoothness, and contributing to optimal paint curing.
It’s most commonly used in industrial paints, automotive coatings, wood stains, protective coatings, and varnishes. Its use extends product shelf life and provides a higher-quality application experience for the end user.
Safety and Usage Note: MEKO is a volatile and flammable chemical. Good ventilation should be provided during application, and appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn. Direct skin contact and inhalation should be avoided.
