Solvent-free Epoxy Coaltar

Solvent-Free Epoxy Coaltar is a two-component, coal tar-modified epoxy topcoat. It provides excellent adhesion and high corrosion/chemical resistance to concrete and steel surfaces, both underground and underwater, making it ideal for marine structures, tanks, and pipelines. At 20°C, it’s touch-dry in 5 hours , recoatable in 24 hours , and fully cured in 7 days .

A two-component, coal tar-modified epoxy-based topcoat that provides high adhesion and superior corrosion/chemical resistance. It adheres perfectly to many surfaces, including concrete, and provides permanent protection for steel and concrete surfaces that will be buried in the ground, as well as structures constantly under water.

Features

  • High resistance to corrosion
  • Excellent moisture resistance
  • Superior protection against salt water and many chemicals
  • High adhesion on concrete and steel surfaces
  • Dense, opaque film; suitable for harsh environmental conditions

Surfaces to be Applied

  • Paint lines, fuel tanks and tank base concretes
  • Manholes, foundation piles (steel/concrete permanently underground)
  • Pier pipe piles, spillways, dam and regulator gates
  • Barges and barges, underwater parts of marine vessels, bilge and ballast tanks
  • Ports and shipyards, inner surfaces of pipes carrying chemical wastewater and sea water

Application Method

Add the second component of the mixture to the first component; mix with a low-speed mixer for 2–3 minutes until homogeneous. Let the mixture rest for ~10 minutes. Pot life: Consume within ~5 hours at room temperature (20 °C).

Surface preparation Perform any necessary scraping/sanding/washing/solvent bath/roughening/cleaning.

Application: Applied with brush, roller or airless spray.

Thinning is not recommended for solvent-free systems. For brush/roller applications, if the system requires it, a maximum of 5–10% thinning can be done with a manufacturer-approved epoxy diluent.

Conditions: Do not apply when the ambient temperature is below +10 °C. Relative humidity should be ≤ 75% and the surface temperature should be ≥ +5 °C.

Curing: Surface drying in ~5 hours at 20°C; initial hardening and recoating time in 24 hours; final cure in 7 days. Do not expose to chemical attack until final cure is completed.
